Why do Some Gay Men Act Strange after 40?
By William Smith
Some Gay Men start acting strange after 40 years old. I have personally seen it firsthand. Now some of these same behaviors occur with some straight men as well after 40. Why does this phenomenon occur? There are many reasons for it.
First, I believe some of it lies on the lack of hormones like testosterone as well as a deficiency in nutrients your body may need. This may regress a person’s physical and mental abilities.
High blood pressure, diabetes and other diseases caused by genetics or environmental conditions also may speed up this regression process.
Over-medication maybe another cause of acting strange when one had not before.
Moreover, some Gay Men act strange after 40 due to coming out late in life, and feel a desire to almost re-enact their youth. When I was younger, I could not understand why a bloated , shirtless older man would be on a float at a gay parade in Chicago. I was told by someone that he had never been to a Home Coming and this was his way of getting that experience that he never had when he was a teenager. It made sense. After I heard that, I actually admired him for doing so. It seemed strange but after understanding the circumstances, it actually was not strange at all. Upon reflection, the problem may have been with me, I was the strange one. Why shouldn’t an older person be on a float , it was my bias towards an age group itself at the time.
But also some Gay Men act strange after 40 because of the lack of Sexual capacity. The symbol of our manhood starts to regress. It is very normal and happens even to men in their late thirties. One may deny that they are suffering and try to prove otherwise. Subconsciously, they want to prove that their sexual impulses and performance are still the same. So they think that they need to find that special someone that will excite them . They may cheat on their partner or be promiscuous, if single. They must prove their manhood to their selves. But guess what? The reason behind all of this is that the brain starts to wear down and the hormone responsible for your “manhood” is no longer being produced as much. It isn’t the partner, and it really wasn’t you. It is biology.
Also, some Gay Men may act strange after 40 due to not being resilient when it pertains to stress. As the brain ages, there is the formation, lengthening and shrinkage of processes called dendrites, which connect nerve cells, creating synapses. according to male animal experiments , Each dendrite has ” spines” , where new synaptic connections are made during the course of everyday life when it comes to memory and learning. . As stress enters ones mid- life in a male animal (rat) , stress causes the dendrites in the hippocampus and the prefrontal cortex to shrink , and the spine synapses to be lost. Thus , for a speculative point of view, substance abuse and anti social behavior may turn up for males after 40.
The other way some Gay Men may act strange after 40 is they may try to prove their manhood and sexual impulses by flirting only with younger men. They maybe afraid of getting older . The idea is that if they hang out with younger guys, maybe it will slow down the aging process. Time will stand still. They avoid guys their own age and especially ones that are a lot older than them. God forbid, they may rub against someone who is older, and get instantly old ….On some levels hanging out with younger guys is acceptable , it is now called intergenerational relationships; however, sometimes it gets out of control. No one wants to be the “troll” at the locale gay bar lusting after younger men when you’re in your 40s or 50s . You will quickly get the nickname of “creepy old man” . What may appear normal to him might look silly or odd to everyone else but him. It is ok to date a younger guy,, but to be just to have a “youth obsession ” and just ignore anyone from your age bracket may require one to get some therapy .
The solution to this ?
1. Seek medical testing to see if there are chemical and biological imbalances with your body.
2. Check your medications and the dosage and the side effects.
3. Take multivitamins to increase energy levels and supply nutrients your body needs .
4. Exercise – it releases natural chemicals in the body like endorphins which reduce tension and anxiety and testosterone ( by losing weight) which increases your sexual libido.
5. Maintain a healthy diet of fruits and vegetables
6. Get Counseling if necessary
7. Keep on moving and aging forward.
In short, I want to make it clear that this does not occur with every gay and straight male-just some like the article points out. Also, acting strange does not have an age limit. In ” acting strange”, what makes it strange is the behavior which is a peculiar and often a completely baffling personality change from the person you once knew.
