Bye Metrosexuals , Hello Spornosexuals!

According to Mark Simpson, an acclaimed journalist and writer; gone are the days of metrosexuals as metrosexual man has evolved into a new Avatar called the SPORNOSEXUAL.  The three words: Sports + Porn + metrosexual have combined and spawned Spornosexual.

Ideally this new age man, has interests in Sports and Pornography in addition to his metrosexual attributes. He loves to invest his money in buying new skin care products, splurging on SPA treatments, objectified himself in public by showcasing his toned body, spending enormous amount of money and time in physical fitness and training.

His style encompasses heavy, lean musculature and specific type of muscle enhancing tattooing, piercings, perfect beards and loves to show his pecks in V-necks. He prides himself with a great body and loves attention. He does not hesitate to show off his body by stripping to bare essentials. The ultimate test of his beautiful body is when he catches eye of other male and receives appreciative glances, he flirts with them and feels confident as he has conquered the enemy. He is not conscious of his body and loves to show it off. You just can’t take your eyes off him. It is also noteworthy that the only two industries gain from this neologism: tattoo and fitness.

Three factors have contributed to the birth of the new Spornosexual man-

• Social media
• Selfies
• Porn

These men have embarked their journey of self-sexualization and objectification and there is no stopping them. The older gay men are following this new trend and working on bulking their bodies by pumping iron and eating high protein and low carb diets and getting tattoos on specific regions of their body.

At first, I wasn’t crazy about it, but now I see the freedom and artistry in it.
