Are you a Survivor and a Hero? Many of us mid- lifers had experienced some bullying when you were a child or even as a young adult. Some of us even got into fights trying to protect ourselves for being ourselves. The long-term effects of bullying are numerous, and can include sensitivity, anxiety, and depression.

As horrific as it was, the place that we thought we could turn to may have let us down as well. I know personally, people, that sought refuge at a church and found again only disappointment. Pray the gay away was the answer. The church lacking compassion and indifference lost a chance to communicate and understand their fellow brother or sister and possibly learning a life lesson.

Things are getting better as gay men and women. Gay marriage and alike would have been a joke even 20 years ago but now it is a reality. But we must not forget all those that came before us that were persecuted for who they were. We must keep the history of the struggles alive and teach others. We are a stronger group that moved forward in our lives and I applaud you for that.

Keep the experiences you have and put them to use for new generations by:
Teaching the appropriate social skills to children/ young adults
Build self-esteem in others with compassion as a centerpiece
Be an Advocate for individuals who are mistreated
Model healthy relationships

You possess a sacred gift from god ..to have duality of feminism and masculinity. Utilize it for yourself and for others.

 

You are the survivors and the heroes so new generations can finally be themselves. Keep on moving and aging forward!
